Knowledge organisers
What is a knowledge organiser?
A knowledge organiser is a go-to document for a unit of work.
Each knowledge organiser contains the key information that children need for a unit of work. It acts as a tool for children to help them to retrieve and retain knowledge for life-long learning.
How do knowledge organisers help the children?
They provide the essential knowledge that the children need to cover in the unit of work. They are shared at the beginning of the unit so that the children know what they are going to learn.
Knowledge organisers help the children to remember key dates, key events, key people, key vocabulary and definitions, and key concepts.
They can be used as a fun assessment tool to help the children remember the learning in the units.
Knowledge organisers help the children to remember their learning and commit their learning to long-term memory.
How can knowledge organisers help parents?
Parents will have a better understanding of what their children are learning.
They will allow parents to build on the knowledge at home. They will provide an easy tool for parents to quiz children at home. (Maybe the children can quiz their parents too!)
We have developed our own knowledge organisers to support the delivery of the curriculum. They contain lists of technical vocabulary with definitions. They have been carefully designed to contain all of the key knowledge we want the children to remember by the end of each unit of work.
The knowledge organisers will be placed on this page for your information.
I hope you find them useful.
