Enrichment within the Owlets class

Year 5 is a pivotal year at Intake Farm, offering a range of enriching experiences that support independence and prepare children for SATs, which happen in year 6.
The year begins with a two-night residential visit to Hathersage, where the children take part in outdoor and team-building activities such as orienteering, hill climbing, and stream studies.
During the autumn term, the Owlets enjoy seasonal enrichment including church-linked activities, a visit to the Mansfield pantomime, and participation in concerts and performances.
In the spring term, the children study the 1960s, culminating in a themed day with creative activities, while some pupils take on roles as school sports leaders.
In the summer term, the Owlets work alongside Year 6 during an enterprise project where they design, make, market, and sell a product to fund a reward experience.
The summer curriculum focusses on Ancient Greece and is often enhanced by a themed day to support creative learning. For several weeks in the summer term, the Owlets take part in the ‘Living with Eggs’ project, observing chicks hatch and learning about animal care.
As the summer term comes to an end, the children will have the chance to apply to become a school prefect, as they move into year 6.
Homework Expectations
One piece of homework is set each week and should be completed in the homework book where possible. Children are also expected to practise spellings, times tables, and read regularly at home.
Extra homework is always recognised and rewarded with Dojos or stickers.
