Welcome to the Geese!

Hello and a big warm welcome to all our children, parents, and carers! Geese class is a fantastic year full of learning, discovery, and personal growth.

This year, the children will be exploring a wide range of exciting topics, including 'Mining in Mansfield', 'Electricity' and 'Volcanoes'. One of our key focusses will be preparing for the Multiplication Tables Check, which takes place at the end of the academic year. We'll be working on building fluency and confidence with times tables throughout the year to enable every child to feel ready and capable.

Children are able to prepare for this by accessing a timetable game on PurpleMash. Each child has a log-in and this can be located in their personal reading journals.

Staff members working in Geese Class:

Miss Rowton - Full time Class Teacher

I hold a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from Nottingham Trent University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education from the University of Birmingham. My educational background has provided me with a creative and inclusive approach to teaching, which I bring into the classroom each day. I have had the opportunity to work with the Local Authority on their Anti-Racist Education Programme, designed to be implemented through a whole-school approach at Intake Farm. This initiative aligns closely with my deep commitment to DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging). I firmly believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and proud of their identity.

DEIB - Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging

In Geese class, we speak multiple languages:

1. English,

2. Malayalam

3. Africaans

4. French (Curriculum)

In Geese Class, we celebrate the unique backgrounds, cultures, languages and experiences that each 'Goose' has, while we actively promote and teach kindness, empathy, and understanding through 'British Values' and 'Protected Characteristics'. Our classroom is a safe space where all differences are celebrated - everyone's voice is heard, and all children are encouraged to be their true selves.

In Geese Class, we actively engage with the Anti-Racism Education Package (AREP). Through thoughtful discussions and oracy work, children learn about the impact racism can have on individuals and communities, and the role every citizen plays in promoting fairness, respect, and justice.

Exciting Geese Life

In Geese, we have many opportunities to visit The National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield. On this visit, children will have the opportunity to experience 'life as a miner', which includes going down a mine and testing safety equipment.

Children also have the opportunity to learn how to play a ukulele. Playing an instrument is a very important and impressive skill that helps children build confidence through performance.

Homework expectations:

Homework is a vital part of education, as it allows children to develop a deeper understanding of learning which has taken place in lessons. Expectations are as follows:

- One piece of homework is given out on a Thursday, and must be returned the following Thursday.

- One set of 10 individual spelling words are given out on a Monday, and must be returned the following Monday.

- Children should be encouraged to read every night independently or to a parent or carer. This should be recorded in their personal reading record. Please speak to a member of the Geese team if you can't locate this.
