Welcome to the Owls

Welcome to Owl Class.
In our class we promote an inclusive classroom environment where everyone is treated with respect and our differences are celebrated. We are a diverse class with pupils and families from many different countries across the world. Many languages are spoken in our class: English, French (curriculum), Turkish, Romanian, Cantonese, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Lithuanian.  We proudly invite all pupils lead learning within our classroom based on their culture and heritage.

Our class is taught by Miss Brough (sbrough@intakefarm.notts.sch.uk) and supported by Mrs Wilkinson on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Mrs Wilkinson also teaches in our class on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

About the team:

Miss Brough
Hello, I teach in Owl Class and have taught in this year group since 2017. I qualified as a teacher in 2010 from the University of Derby after completing my PGCE in Primary Education and have since completed my NPQML and NPQLL awards to enable me to develop my skills as a senior leader in school.

I am very proud to teach at Intake Farm Primary and Nursery School and carry out numerous roles in school. I am the Key Stage 2 Leader and I am here to support all pupils and their families with any questions or concerns they may have. I currently share the Curriculum Lead (and history and geography co-ordinator) role with Mrs Cox and we work closely to develop our curriculum to be the best it can be for our pupils. I am also responsible for writing across school (including handwriting, spelling and grammar) all of which I am very passionate about.

Mrs Wilkinson

Mrs Wilkinson is also a member of the school's senior leadership team has many years of experience of working in this year group and she is always on hand to support pupils and families.

Year 6 Owls

Being in the Owl Class is an important part of attending Intake Farm Primary and Nursery School as this is the final year of primary education before moving up to secondary school. During this year, we take on more responsibility through our roles as prefects, school councillors and eco-warriors and also strive to be the best ambassadors of the school. We also work hard throughout the year to achieve our best in our End of Key Stage 2 Assessments (SATs).

Educational Visits thoughout the year

Throughout the year, we embark on two educational visits: one to Sherwood Forest and the other to Walesby Forest Adventure Centre.

Sherwood Forest:
Our visit to Sherwood Forest links to our history and science topics in the autumn term. This visit allows pupils to explore the local history of Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood as well as providing real-life, hands on experiences of exploring animals and their habitats. Pupils also explore stories from Sherwood Forest and have the opportunity to handle weapons and armoury from Medieval times.

Walesby Forest Adventure Centre:
Our 3-day residential visit to Walesby Forest Adventure takes place in the Summer term (after SATs) and this provides pupils with the perfect opportunity to be active and challenge themselves as they embark on their transitional phase of primary school to secondary school. This is where we see the pupils' confidence soar!  Throughout this residential experience, pupils will develop team-work skills, independence, leadership skills and responsibility - all whilst having lots of fun and possibly getting wet!

Other activities throughout the year:
In addition to the educational visits, we also provide ample enrichment opportunities across the curriculum by collaborating with the church to support our learning in R.E. and having the opportunity to represent our school in sports tournaments. In the summer term, pupils also participate in 'Enterprise Week' with the Owlets Class where pupils take responsibility for producing and selling a product or service. At the end of the week, pupils choose how to spend any profits that they make. Over recent years, pupils have chosen visits to the cinema, visits to bowling and a disco with snacks.

School Uniform and P.E. Kits
Pupils are a required to wear school uniform unless it is a P.E. day. Our school uniform and P.E. policy can be found here: https://www.intakefarmprimary.co.uk/attachments/download.asp?file=122&type=pdf. Please note all long hair should be tied back whilst at school.

Our P.E. days are Monday and Tuesday. As P.E. is an essential part of the curriculum, your child is required to take part. If your child is unable to take part in P.E., written notification will be required.

Homework

Homework is an essential part of our learning. In Owl Class, pupils are expected to complete their weekly homework tasks (this is usually linked to maths or grammar) as this provides revision opportunities for pupils in preparation for their SATs at the end of the year.

Pupils are also required to read at least 3 x per week. This helps to build up reading fluency and vocabulary knowledge.

In addition to this, there is also a homework menu with tasks for pupils to complete. Completing these tasks is recommended as it helps to prepare pupils for more homework as they transition to their secondary schools.

The links below can also be used to support pupils with their learning at home.

If you would like a paper copy of the information below please let us know. We will be happy to provide one free of charge.
