Mrs Bond

Hello and welcome! I am Mrs Bond and I have taught in Year 5 since September 2017. I graduated from the University of Derby in 2017 and completed my NASENCO qualification in 2022. In 2024, I passed my NPQSL award, which allowed me to develop my skills as a senior leader within school.

In the Owlets class I teach Monday- Wednesday. On Thursday, I have allocated time as the school SENCO. On Fridays I work as the family SENCO for the Queen Elizabeth's family of schools. At Intake Farm I am responsible for RE and love overseeing the RE curriculum and organising enriching activities with the local churches. I am also one of the designated safeguarding leads and work with children and families regularly to ensure safety and wellbeing.

Mrs Bray

Welcome everyone! I am Mrs Bray and I teach on Thursdays and Fridays. I am in charge of music and maths at Intake Farm.

Enrichment within the Owlets class

Year 5 is such a special year for the children at Intake Farm. Not only is it the penultimate year before SATS, but many exciting and enriching opportunities present themself in year 5.

To begin the year, the children are invited to attend the Hathersage residential for 2 nights. This includes activities such as: orienteering, stream studies, map reading, hill climbing, den building and team building. This is always a fantastic way to start the year and bond with the children as they make unforgettable memories.

As the Owlets approach Christmas, they often take part in activities linked to the church, go to the Mansfield pantomime and take part in concerts and performances (some of which are both in and out of school).

In the spring term, the Owlets learn about the 1960's, which culminates in a 1960's day, complete with tie- dye t-shirts and a 1960's themed buffet. Some of the Owlets will also be selected to become school sports leaders during this time, in which they lead games across school for other children.

As the Owlets progress to the summer term, they will take part in a joint enterprise week with year 6. The children will create a simple product to research, make, market and sell. Profits from the task are spent on a further enjoyable enrichment activity or visit for the children. This could include: bowling, the cinema or a themed party in school with added extras. The topic within the summer term focusses around Ancient Greece. The Owlets often have an opportunity to take part in a themed day, where creative tasks are undertaken. For a few weeks of the summer term, the Owlets are fortunate enough to host the 'Living with eggs' project. We spend a few weeks watching the chicks hatch and are able to nurture and hold them whilst they are in the classroom.

As the summer term comes to an end, the children will have the chance to apply to become a school prefect, as they move into year 6.

PE days and PE kit

Our PE days this term are Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure that your child comes to school in PE kit on these days. PE kit includes: A white t- shirt, blue or black jogging bottoms/ leggings/ shorts and trainers. Earrings must be able to be taken out, as we cannot use tape for safety reasons.

Homework expectations

One piece of homework is given out per week. Children should complete their homework in their given homework book where possible. Additionally, children should practise spellings and times tables 3 times per week. Reading at home is a high priority, even within year 5. Children should strive to do this as much as possible, either with an adult or independently. Extra homework will always be rewarded with merits/ stickers as we celebrate children's efforts and achievements.

Uniform expectations

Children are expected to wear a blue jumper with black trousers/ leggings/ skirts/ shorts and appropriate shoes for school (black if possible). Children are expected to bring a coat for most of the year, to accommodate the great British weather.
