Literacy

Recap the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' Discuss the key parts.

 

 

 

 

Revisit the part where Jack leaves to sell the cow. Why are they selling the cow?

 

Can you make a 'For Sale' poster to help sell the cow?

Can you describe Daisy the cow? (size, colour, what can she be used for?)

Can you write Daisy by yourself, using our new 'ai' digraph?

 

Remember to:

  • Rehearse your sentence verbally 
  • Write one word at a time
  • Sound out the words with your robot arms
  • Write the sounds that you hear (words do not have to be spelled correctly, they should be spelled as they sound)
  • Use the sound mat to identify the letters and form them correctly
  • Use finger spaces between words (not letters)

Phonics 

Revisit

  • Sing the Alphabet song-  Can you name the letters?
  • Recap the letters previously learned: Can you say the letter name and sound and perform the action? Focus particularly on the phase three letters, more recently introduced.

    • Phase 3: j v w x y z zz qu ch ai
  • Recap the tricky words previously learned:
    • Phase 2: I to and no go the into 
    • Phase 3: he she we

Teach

  • New digraph (two letters that make one sound) 'sh'- say the sound and do the action (hold your finger to your lips)
  • Sing the Jolly Phonics song
  • Practise writing 'sh' with different body parts or in different places
  • Which words have a 'sh' sound? Sort the objects by the sounds 'sh' or 'ch' (see sheet below)

Practise

  • Read the sentence, Can you spot the 'sh' digraph?

Apply

  • Write the words using the 'sh' digraph

 

Follow-up Challenge 

Practise writing 'sh' (on the sheet, paper, with chalks, paint or in mud, sand, salt or flour!)

Can you write some 'sh' words? ('sh' phoneme frames)

 

Active Afternoon

Try some active maths as well as some of the activities on the 'Active Tuesday' sheet!

 

Active Maths
Practise counting to 10 and then 20 in different voices (whisper, shout, deep, squeaky, robot) - Can you show the numbers on your fingers?

 

Count down from 10, Sing: 

"Zoom zoom zoom, we're going to the moon. 
Zoom zoom zoom we'll be there very soon. 
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 ! BLAST OFF!!"

 

Count 10 of each action (claps, jumps, clicks, nods, stamps)

 

Make a giant ten frame on the floor, using: tape, chalk or rope - Can you fill your ten frame (one object per box?) How many more spaces do you need to fill? 
Fill it again with different objects.
